Math is All Around Us!
The skills, knowledge and behaviours that children need in order to use mathematics in a wide range of situations compromises Numeracy . Fostering numeracy in early years ensures that children develop a lifelong positive attitude toward mathematics and a robust foundation for learning in all areas.
Starting from a view of mathematics as a discipline or knowledge domain, the concept of numeracy provides ‘a social and cultural perspective for discovering and thinking about mathematical knowledge and applying it to fulfil the purposes of our everyday lives’ (Macmillan, 2009, p.1).
